Summary of work: The Hub Project is looking for a research professional to support the work of the Economic Education Project (EEP). The researcher will produce original research and fact check materials to hold members of Congress across the country accountable for their issue stances and actions. The Research Consultant will work closely with EEP’s Research Department, other members of the EEP team, and external partners to ensure that the accountability campaigns EEP supports are both strong and accurate. This research will include longer-term research projects and rapid response activities.

 

Objectives: 

  • Support all Hub Project Economic Education Project teams and external partners to develop strong and accurate materials for press, the public, and paid media. 
  • Provide longer-term research projects for EEP team members and external partners to guide the campaigns’ work to hold members of Congress accountable. 
  • Support the EEP team and external partners with rapid response including approving fast moving materials and providing accurate updates on congressional, governmental, and policy information. 
  • Provide paid media consultation and backup for EEP team and external partners. 
 

Scope of work: 

  • Provide research support and monitor Congressional activity: 
    • Conduct and compile timely research to drive accountability and issue advocacy campaigns, primarily on the Congressional district level. 
    • Participate in calls with state partners, including briefing partners on news and research products and contributing to brainstorming sessions
    • Draft written research materials, including long-form memos and rapid response explainers, and help translate dense content into digestible and useful information.
    • Track U.S. House votes and activities and monitor relevant news and policy analyses.
  • Conduct fact-checking: Fact-check materials, ranging from television advertisements to press releases, to ensure that all our arguments are backed up with solid evidence.
  • Provide research-supported strategic advising: 
    • Provide guidance to state and local partners on how to utilize research and to run targeted accountability campaigns.
    • Contribute to the development of new ideas for research and campaign tactics that can advance our arguments and support our goals.
    • Help identify rapid response opportunities and provide support to the development of rapid response materials when breaking news and/or unexpected events affect our campaigns.
  • Support Hub staff: Collaborate with Hub staff across the team (digital, communications, campaigns, consultants) to meet their research needs.
 

Experience required: 

  • Three years or one election cycle of prior experience in advocacy research or political research. 
  • Familiarity with online research tools and with common research techniques, including research bullet writing.
  • Strong writing and editing abilities and able to synthesize complicated issues into clear points and compelling narratives.
  • Comfort working under tight deadlines in a dynamic work environment without sacrificing accuracy or quality.
  • Strong ability to manage multiple projects while also contributing to a team.
  • Strong organization and attention to detail.
  • Commitment to advocating for an economy that works for everyone and centers justice and equity.
  • Commitment to racial equity and understanding its intersectionality with economic justice.

Term: March 2025 through December 2025, with the possibility of contract renewal 

 

Expected hours: 40-48 hours per week, primarily on weekdays from 9am - 6pm with occasional rapid response support on weekends

 

Location: We are flexible but would like you to work in the Hub offices in Washington D.C. for 3 days a week as available.
